Why do we expect a Medicaid-reliant patient who wants detox to sit hour upon hour in a 'crisis center' and wait for a bed somewhere in the city while feeling more and more like this as dope sickness builds...
This blog is my public diary of experiences that I've had as I become increasingly involved in the area of Kensington, Pa. I am including experiences that I am having as I sit down, one on one, with homeless people who are dealing with Substance Use Disorder. All Names have been changed and, occasionally, I share a story using the opposite pronoun (he/she him/her), as an additional way to assure privacy.

An Adorable Kitten of a Young Lady 30 Minutes from Your Suburban Church...
An adorable kitten of a young lady who I've known for a few weeks walked up to me to tell me of her medical issue brought on by the added poisons that are in the 'heroin', her plan to get the issue resolved and then go home because she's tired of living on the streets and all that comes with this lifestyle as a woman.
I lightheartedly asked... "You're so adorable. Are you available for adoption?"
Her response... "My mom died of an overdose and my dad is in jail so... Yes. I am."

PS: You'll never see pictures or videos of me doing what I do where I do it... In a roundabout way, I can show you the exact location where this conversation occurred.
Check out this scene from "Rocky" around the one-minute mark. This is the exact location multiple decades ago.
