Please Know...

As I come to know these fine people, they share with me more of their personal and sensitive stories. Their collective story is what I am trying to share with you as my way of breaking the stereotypical beliefs that exist. "Blog names" have occasionally been given to me by the person whose story I am telling. Names are never their actual names and wherever I can do so, I might use the opposite pronoun (his/her, etc.) just to help increase their privacy.

Throughout this blog you are now seeing advertising. I need to provide this so as to keep going financially with this ministry. If you see something that is inappropriate to this site, please let me know - maybe get a screen shot of it for me. I do get credit for any "click" that you might make on any of the ads. The Book of Psalms and My Footnote Fetish

If you've read at least a few of my blogs, you know I use footnotes a lot.  As I'm sitting here in physical isolation between shifts at Recovery Centers of America where I serve as a driver, it dawned on me that I have a footnote fetish.  I might as well publicly admit that and put it to good use while stranded in my apartment.

The content of the following footnotes is simply copied and pasted from the "Lookup" feature in Microsoft Word.  This is a lighthearted way to better understand the content of what's being presented.  There are lots of great and far more intellectual books that can go into much more depth than can I.  And so, with those thoughts shared, here are my entries after admitting and dare I say "coming out of the closet" as having a footnote fetish...

Psalm 1 New International Version (NIV)
BOOK I
Psalms 1–41
Psalm[1] 1
Blessed[2] is the one
    who does not walk in step with the wicked[3]
or stand in the way that sinners[4] take
    or sit in the company of mockers[5],
but whose delight[6] is in the law of the Lord[7],
    and who meditates[8] on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
    which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers[9].
Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment[10],
    nor sinners in the assembly[11] of the righteous[12].
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked leads to destruction[13].

Psalm 2 New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 2
Why do the nations conspire[1][a]
    and the peoples plot[2] in vain[3]?
The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord[4] and against his anointed[5], saying,
“Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”
The One enthroned[6] in heaven[7] laughs;
    the Lord scoffs[8] at them.
He rebukes[9] them in his anger
    and terrifies[10] them in his wrath[11], saying,
“I have installed my king
    on Zion[12], my holy[13] mountain.”
I will proclaim[14] the Lord’s decree[15]:
He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance[16],
    the ends of the earth[17] your possession[18].
You will break them with a rod of iron[b];
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear[19]
    and celebrate[20] his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Psalm 3 New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 3[a]
A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.
Lord, how many are my foes[1]!
    How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me,
    “God will not deliver[2] him.”[b]
But you, Lord, are a shield[3] around me,
    my glory[4], the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
    and he answers me from his holy mountain.
I lie down and sleep;
    I wake again, because the Lord sustains[5] me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
    assail[6] me on every side.
Arise, Lord!
    Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
    break the teeth of the wicked.
From the Lord comes deliverance[7].
    May your blessing[8] be on your people.

Psalm 4 New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 4[a]
For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.
Answer me when I call to you,
    my righteous[1] God.
Give me relief[2] from my distress[3];
    have mercy[4] on me and hear my prayer[5].
How long will you people turn my glory[6] into shame[7]?
    How long will you love delusions[8] and seek false gods[b]?[c]
Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful[9] servant for himself;
    the Lord hears when I call to him.
Tremble and[d] do not sin;
    when you are on your beds,
    search your hearts and be silent.
Offer the sacrifices[10] of the righteous
    and trust in the Lord.
Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity[11]?”
    Let the light of your face shine on us.
Fill my heart with joy
    when their grain and new wine[12] abound.
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
    for you alone, Lord,
    make me dwell in safety.
